Explore Aruba Island Tour
Length: 3 hours
Price: $30
Wild, barren countryside covered in twisted divi divi trees and cacti, pastel colored houses and palm trees: Aruba is an island of contrasts. This tour will give you the opportunity to explore its "wilder" side. Here are the main stops:
- California Lighthouse: Surrounded by sand dunes and huge boulders set against the green fairways of the golf course the views from this point are fantastic. The lighthouse is named " California" after SS California, which sunk just off shore in 15 - 30 feet of water.
- Alta Vista Chapel: very pretty mustard colored building where you can pray for a miracle or go next door and drown your sorrows at the rum shop.
- The Casibari Rock Formations: Tthese are a mystery since they do not match the geological makeup of the island. Climb to the top for great views of the windswept countryside below.
- Natural Bridge: Centuries of raging wind and sea shaped this coral rock bridge. It measures 100 feet long and is 23 feet above sea level making it the highest coral formation in the Caribbean.
- Frenchman's Pass: A dark tree lined road where the local Indians fought the French for control of the island in the seventeenth century.
Seaworld Explorer Semi-Submarine
Coral Reef and Shipwreck Tour
Length: 2 hours
Price: $37
The Seaworld Explorer is a state-of-the-art semi-submarine developed in Australia for use on the Great Barrier Reef. The vessel does not submerge; you descend into the hull of this cruising underwater observatory and sit in air-conditioned comfort five feet below the surface of the water, exploring amazing sea life through large, clear glass windows.
Your journey begins at the pier, where your air-conditioned bus takes you through Oranjestad, passing the island's major hotels and sugar-white beaches. At the Holiday Inn Pier, you board a transfer boat that takes you to the Seaworld Explorer, waiting near renowned Arashi Reef. Our skilled captain and knowledgeable narrator guide the semi-submarine through this wondrous reef filled with beautiful coral formations and hundreds of spectacular tropical fish. Leaving Arashi Reef, the Seaworld Explorer takes you to the wreck of the Antilla, a 440-foot German freighter destroyed during World War II. The huge ship lies on her side in 60 feet of water where it is only partially submerged, providing a resting-place for the pelicans that frequent it. Measuring 440 feet in length, this is the largest wreck in the Caribbean. A knowledgeable marine expert will provide you with information on the amazing underwater world around you and will be happy to answer questions. From the wreck, you enjoy a relaxing cruise to shore before being driven back to the ship.
